How to Know and Recognize Alcoholism Signs

Alcoholism is a word synonymous with addiction or abuse, alcohol being the most abused substance in the world. This makes it extremely important for the people around alcoholics to know and recognize the alcoholism signs. Its important to understand how alcohol causes dependence. When alcohol reaches the brain it releases dopamine and serotonin both these chemicals are responsible for causing euphoria and a sense of well being.
The reason most people abuse this substance is for the sense of well being and euphoria it induces. Most alcoholics have tensions, stress, emotional problems and financial difficulties which they try to forget when under the influence of alcohol. Alcoholism signs are very peculiar and follow a particular sequence. The first sign is drinking in isolation; the addict tries to be alone while drinking. This stems from the fact that he or she is guilt conscious knowing that they cannot do with out alcohol and that the amount of alcohol they need is slowly increasing.
Drinking increasing amounts of alcohol is the very next sign and this happens because the body needs more and more alcohol to bring about the same effect of euphoria. The next lot of signs are setting aside specific times for drinking, these are generally after work or late evenings. The addict begins lying and getting upset when stopped and questioned about his whereabouts at this particular time. Eventually all social gatherings are centered on this very act of consuming alcohol.
The alcoholism signs which most affects the life of the addict is the change in nature brought about by this substance abuse. The alcoholic becomes aggressive and gets offended by small things which were at one time taken in light spirit by him. Spirit is the word and substance which causes these aggressive and reckless behavioral alcoholism signs. The family starts suffering causing fights and disturbances at home, this makes matters worse. To escape from these domestic tensions the alcoholic turns to the bottle for support.
The physical alcoholism signs like blood shot eyes, swollen face, tremors and slurred speech helps one identify an alcoholic. They start keeping alcohol at the most unlikely places at office or home and are disinterested in almost everything else in life. Loss of appetite, liver problems, gastric acidity and pancreatitis can all cause physical discomfort and pain to the addict. Eventually there is withdrawal early in the morning and the alcoholic needs a drink first thing in the morning, this is one of the most serious signs of alcoholism.
Need for the body to have a drink first thing in the morning indicates the degree of dependency of the body on alcohol. If the body doesn’t get alcohol at regular intervals the person goes into withdrawal. The signs and symptoms of withdrawal are as serious as those of chronic alcoholism and need to be treated. When de-addiction treatment is started the first thing done is treating the withdrawal, when the signs of withdrawal are taken care of its easy for the addict to stop drinking.
Why Drinking Glasses are the Salt and Pepper of Table Arrangements

More commonly referred to as glassware, drinking glasses are the salt and pepper of table arrangements; they create a mood and allow one to feel comfortable when sipping a favorite beverage. The diversity of the drinking glasses is clearly the indication not that people are drinking more, but that we are a lot keener on shape, size and color. We now want to enjoy a drink, but a lot of the pleasure of the ritual is reduced when we don’t have the right type of drinking glasses. It would be like drinking Madeira wine from a plastic cup. This would explain the huge offer of pony and pint glasses for beer (to mention only two), Martini glasses, ice tea glasses, shot glasses, brandy glasses and the list could go on and on.
A criterion for classifying drinking glasses is by dividing them in tumblers and stemware; whereas the former are very casual glassware, the latter are meant to impress by elegance, refinement and style. Stemmed glasses are used for cocktails, formal or informal dinners, and on any other suitable occasion. What most people don’t actually know is that the use of such drinking glasses requires that they be held by the stem, so that the temperature of the beverage may not be affected; furthermore, holding the bowl will also leave finger marks on the glass, and thus diminish the aesthetic effect.
If beer drinking glasses need to be made of thicker materials so as to preserve freshness and the icy temperature, not the same thing can be said about wine glasses. The design and the shape of the bowls requires a very thin glass surface to achieve the elegant look required by this type of drinking glasses. Moreover, the shape of the bowl is also responsible for preserving the flavor of the drink; hence, don’t be surprised that the same wine served from two different glasses may have a slightly different taste or flavor.
Drinking glasses can be etched in order to be offered as a gift for a dear person, or they can be purchased already engraved with some subtle design. Moreover, if you consider buying some special glassware, such as champagne flutes, you may have to consider the shape, the size and the price of the items too. Knowing when to use a certain type of glassware has always been considered a sign of good breeding, nevertheless, sometimes it is almost impossible to tell which glassware to use for a certain drink. This is why it is important to have some general-use drinking glasses around the house that can be used for a variety of occasions.
How To Choose Wine Glasses

Wine is about more than the taste. There is a depth to wine that is important to the true wine connoisseur. You have to respect that every aspect of wine should be enjoyed in order to truly appreciate the beauty and the design of the wine. That is why a true wine lover will know that the glasses you use to serve wine are almost as important as the drink that goes in the glass.
Wine glasses help to present the wine in its best light. You have to choose glasses carefully or you risk muffling the full flavor and body of the wine. With so many wine glass choices, though, choosing a good wine glass can be tricky. You just have to learn the basics so you can become a real wine expert.
Recognizing what a Good Glass Accomplishes
As mentioned, enjoying wine is about more than taste. You want to look at the color of the wine and take in the aroma of the wine. All these aspects come together. Wine tasting is all about using each of the five senses to enjoy the beauty of the drink.
Wine glasses help to bring out the look and the aroma of wine. The shape of the glass and its depth both work together to either present the wine in the best light or stump its abilities.
Choosing the right wine glass is imperative to bringing forth the full personality of a wine. Choosing the wrong glass will diminish the greatest of a wine and perhaps make it less enjoyable than it should be.
Making a Good Pairing
Pairing a wine with the glass is all about recognizing what the glass does for the wine. Here’s a look at the two most popular shapes of glasses:
Tall and thin: Tall and think glasses will condense the aroma and allow for a great overall look at the wine. This type of glass is perfect for champagne because it allows one to enjoy the bubbles. You want to use this glass type for delicate, white wines.
Wide and Broad: Wide glasses with broad rims really spread out the aroma and give a look at the depth of the wine. This type of glass should be used with bolder, red wines. You may use this for your merlot or cabernet.
You have to remember the bottom line is that you want your glass to show off everything your wine has to offer. If your glass is stunting a particular feature of the wine then it is not the right glass.
On last tip that goes along with choosing the right glass is using the glass to its fullest to present your wine. Even with the best wine glass you can still mess up the presentation if you pour the glass too full. Always pour wine to only 1/3 or ½ of the depth of the glass. With this trick when you choose the right glass your wine will really be shown off to the fullest.

id you take one too many tequila shots with your college buddies last night and are seriously regretting it this morning? All that booze has swiftly traveled up to your head through the night and now you can’t think straight because of a constant pounding in your head, you are bending over to reach a bag to throw up in and you feel like you might never be able to get out of bed? Welcome to the world of hangovers.
The best cure to one is not to drink too much in the first place but if you have over-indulged yourself, don’t worry. There are ways to alleviate the symptoms of a hangover.
Firstly, lets look at how you can save yourself the agony. To prevent the effects of a hangover which are mostly due to dehydration, drink as much water as possible before going to sleep. This will also assist the body in getting purged of the alcohol in your system. Taking water every once in a while during your drinking marathon can also stop hangover from occurring the next day.
Another way is to munch on something before or during drinking.
If none of these tips work or if you didn’t pay heed to them then here are ways to beat the nausea, dizziness and exhaustion:
You must have seen people in movies waking up with hangovers and reaching for a pot of strong black coffee. Bad idea! The caffeine in coffee will serve to dehydrate your body even more. Plus, it has diuretic properties so of course it will leave your stomach feeling worse than ever.
Bland water too much for you to face? Substitute it with ginger ale. This will help you calm your stomach. Make sure it is flat and not fizzy.
Fresh fruit juice is another good option. The vitamin C found in it will provide you with quick energy that your body so craves.
Do not ignore your thirst. Even some energy drinks can be helpful to some people.
To ease the dry feeling in your mouth, take a few tablespoons of honey or stir it in with a glass of water.
When you have had enough water try swallowing a few slices of plain toast and keeping it down. Do not apply any topping like marmalade or peanut butter.
For a little freshening up and getting energy into your exhausted body, try eat a little fruit.
In case it’s impossible for you to look at any solid food or even juices resort to multivitamins.
Take some aspirin to get rid of the headache. Tylenol and Panadol are common choices. Use them in the morning and not at night when your body is still loaded with the alcohol.
Sleep it off. Use all the remedies given above and hit the pillow again.
Wrap your head in a cool wash cloth or compress. Try relax.

Alcoholism is defined in a number of ways but all these definitions all point to the abuse of alcohol. There is one definition that is forwarded by the Journal of American Medical Association that states that this alcoholism is a primary and a chronic disease that is usually characterized by the impaired control over drinking activities, preoccupation with alcohol and the use of the alcohol despite the consequences that can be delivered by it and the distortions that happens in the thinking of one individual.
Another definition of alcoholism defines this as the repeated use of alcohol even with the recurring of consequences. And the dependence on alcohol is defined as alcohol abuse that is usually combined with the tolerance, the withdrawal and the urge to drink.
Based on the provided definitions of alcoholism, it is an accepted fact that the use of alcohol is needed in order to develop alcoholism. But this doesn’t mean that once a person drinks alcohol, that person will ultimately develop alcohol dependence.
There are a number of factors at work that enables this condition to be present on person and in fact these factors may affect the person in varying degrees. Some of these factors that have a say if a person will develop this condition include the social environment of the person, his emotional health and genes play a role as well.
Treatment for Alcoholism
The treatment that is used to counter alcoholism differs and a number of treatments are available as well. The choice on which treatment to use is dependent as well on how the condition is approach. The choice of treatment may be different to those who see alcoholism as a medical condition and different for those who see alcoholism as a social choice. These treatment are numerous and varied but they all share some general similarities. All these treatments call for a person to stop the use and the abuse of alcohol and this is then followed by training and a support that will help the patient to return to a life of alcoholism.
One popular treatment is detoxification and this treatment calls for a stop in the intake of alcohol. Often this treatment calls for a substitution of drugs. This kind of treatment may treat the physical effects of alcoholism but this doesn’t treat the condition. Another kind of treatment is called group therapy or the psychotherapy. The popular Alcoholics Anonymous is a popular example of a group therapy under this method. Often this is resorted to after the person has stopped drinking alcohol.
Medications are also used in order to treat this condition. Some of the medications that are used are the Antabuse or the disulfiram and this medicine ensures that acetaldehyde will not be eliminated from the body. The Naltrexone is another medication and this is a competitive antagonist for the opioid receptors. This medication is used in two different ways. The first one is used to decrease the cravings for alcohol and the second one is used to reverse endorphin conditioning. Two other medications that are used to address this condition are the Acamprosate or the Campral and the Topiramate.

Become a Master at the Game
Possibly the most popular of these drinking games is “quarters”. In this highly strategic game of skill, a shot galls is filled with liquor and then a quarter is passed around the table, each person trying to bounce it off the table and into the glass. It is a difficult game for the novice, but with practice a person can learn to make a ringer every time.
A Game of Strategy
Once a person bounces the quarter into the glass, he or she then points to a person sitting at the table, who then has to drink the shot. Believe it or not, this is a game of strategy if it is played correctly. This is because, two skilled players operating surreptitiously as a team can then work cooperatively to single out one or more persons to be the main consumers of their shots.
Carnal Knowledge
The end result, is that this hapless victim is rendered intoxicated before he or she has a chance to figure out that they have been had. It is not uncommon for a team of one sex or another to single out a member of the opposite sex sitting at their table for their “inebriation attack” for the sole propose and intent of gaining carnal knowledge with them.
Alcohol Induced Coma
It is imperative that when employing this technique for romantic purposes that one not cross the line into an area of behavior commonly known as “date rape”. However; there is nothing wrong with using a a few drinks to increase ones odds at gaining another conquest just as long as the person you are “conquesting” is not in an alcohol induced coma.
What are Alcohol Shots Really Like?

For parties, having a selection of drinks ensures that the fun and laughter won’t disappear into awkward silence. There are many types of drinks that can be used to make people relax and have fun. These can include fruit juices, soft drinks, and alcoholic drinks. Of the alcoholic drinks there are some people who prefer having alcohol shots.
Now at this point you are probably wondering what the difference is between these alcohol shots and the normal alcoholic beverages. The main difference lies in the fact that not every alcoholic drink can be taken as an alcohol shot. There are certain types of alcohol that have always been used as alcohol shots.
These alcohol shots include Absinthe, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Tequila, Gin and many others. Now these alcohol shots are usually taken by people who have the ability to hold their liquor. As these are very potent alcoholic drinks there is a strong possibility that normal drinkers may get very badly drunk on these extremely quickly.
As we have all heard of these various alcohol shots we should take a closer look and see what these drinks are really like. Whiskey as we know is produced and distilled from grains. They are aged in oak casks to give them their distinctive taste. You will find that there are different types of whiskey and that the alcohol strength and quality for each of these is somewhat different.
We will now look at Absinthe. This interesting drink originally comes from Switzerland. Absinthe is also called la Fée Verte and it has an unusual taste of anise. This is a very highly alcoholic drink and it is distilled and flavored, which is why you will be able to taste the anise flavoring that is present.
Our next stop in alcohol shots is that of Vodka. There are many different types of Vodka available in the world and I am sure that many of you have at some point tasted a little bit of Vodka. Generally Vodka is colorless and it is distilled from grains as well. The alcohol volume in the Vodka ranges in strength from the very mild 35 % to the 70%. In most cases Vodka is used in very popular cocktails but there are some brave souls out there who like their Vodka neat.
So the next time that you go to a bar and hear someone ask for alcohol shots you will know what they are ordering. This is also a warning to you unless you have the ability to hold your liquor not to ask for alcoholic shots.
Tila Tequila Hates Watching a Shot at Love.

Despite the critics’ intense comments and reviews on A Shot of Love with Tila Tequila, the show has garnered a solid fan base, most of which are very opinionated about the contestants, especially now that it’s just down to two. Most think that the butch lesbian Dani deserves to win, but a lot of people still predict that Bobby will be taking home the Tequila.
Despite nearing an exciting ending, it seems that Tila Tequila herself has something to say about her reality TV series, which has catapulted her from MySpace phenomenon to reality TV star.
Tila recently posted a new entry on her MySpace page, which was aptly entitled “Why I Hate Watching A Shot at Love.”
“I just finished watching the 2nd to last episode of A SHOT AT LOVE and I must admit to you all that I hate it! Why do I hate it? Well because it always makes me cry! UGHHHHH!” Tila exclaimed. “I was so emotional throughout the entire experience, as you can see, but watching it all over again puts me right back into that place. It’s really hard to fall in love with more than one person at the same time…and when you’re dealing with the heart’s matter, then nothing comes easy….especially on me to have to make that decision!”
She also admitted that she wanted to date multiple contestants at the same time, or probably do something like what Bret Michaels tried to make happen on Rock of Love. She wrote, “I can only be with 1 person you know? If I could, I would date them all! hahahhahaa! God, I only wish right???? But that wouldn’t be fair for everyone and at the same time it would really kill me…”
It is kind of weird that Tila admitted this publicly, as she is supposed to be so in love that she won’t need or want another Shot at Love. Moreover, this entry may be misinterpreted as a slip in the build-up-to-finale “I found love” message Tila’s been advocating in the press lately.
The finale of A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila airs on December 18. Don’t miss it!
