Drink recipes: Mudslide

Mmmm, Mudslides are one of my favorite drinks, usually what I get when I feel like something chocolaty and thick, an alcoholic milkshake if you will. Contrary to what you may think about a mudslide, there is nothing non-alcoholic in it, except the ice.
Typically, when you make a mudslide, you use equal parts, vodka, Kahlua coffee liqueur, and Bailey’s Irish Cream, but I find that if you add extra Bailey’s, maybe two parts to the one of vodka and Kahlua, it comes out creamier and you taste less of the alcohol. Put the alcohol into a blender with some crushed ice, unless you have a really good blender, and blend until smooth, then pour in a cup and enjoy.
There are a bunch of ways that you can spice (or sweeten, if you prefer) up the recipe to suite your tastes. First, try substituting some of the alcohols. Use a vanilla vodka like Stolichnaya (the best flavors in my opinion) or Smirnoff instead of unflavored, or a different flavor of Bailey’s (the caramel works well) or Kahlua instead of the normal, but not all at once. When I say that, I mean use either the vanilla vodka OR the caramel Bailey’s, not both of them together, that’s just too many conflicting tastes for your tongue to decipher, and it takes away from the original recipe, which is what we’re trying to appreciate. Remember: less is more.
Another way is to put chocolate syrup into the glass, but not in the blender with the alcohol as that messes up the recipe. After you blend the mix, squeeze the syrup while turning the glass so you get an even coat across the inside walls of the glass. You can make pretty designs and have a great presentation if you’re making for party guests. Topping with whipped cream and a cherry is optional, but adds to the presentation and guilty pleasure.
If you’re having a party, or just feel like treating yourself, you can use the Kahlua mudslide mix, to which you just add vodka and pour over ice, or blend if you prefer. I’ve never used it, being a bartender myself, so I’m not sure how good it is, but it’ll save you a good $20 at least that you would spend on the three bottles of alcohol, and save room in your fridge.
Enjoy and as always, drink responsibly.
Alcohol: Good or Bad?

Alcohol: Good or Bad?
Alcohol is made from the sugar of grains, fruits, and others foods by fermentation.
Moderate (up to two servings for women and up to three servings for men) daily alcohol consumption protects against heart disease and stroke by increases the production of good cholesterol (HDL). Red wine, as an added benefit, decreases the production of bad cholesterol (LDL).
One serving contains 10 grams of alcohol. The sizes are:
- 5 oz or 1 glass of 12% wine (white & red)
- 12 oz or 1 glass of 5% beer
- 1.5 oz of spirituous or a shot of 40% alcohol (whisky, vodka, rum, & gin)
Alcohol can however damage your health if you drink up to five servings per day. Regular heavy consumption is harmful and may cause:
- alcoholism
- high blood pressure
- stroke
- breast, bladder, throat and stomach cancer
- disorders of central nervous system
- cirrhosis of the liver
- vitamin and mineral deficiency diseases
- asocial relations
- death
Each gram of alcohol provides 7 calories. When drank in moderation, alcohol is used as an energy source; however, if your total calories intake for the day is too high, you will stock alcohol as fat. Pregnant women should avoid alcohol.
ACTION STEP 21
Write down the days you’ve drank alcohol last week. For each day, note how many servings you’ve had (the size of a serving is described above) and check if the daily total is above 2 (for women) or 3 (for men). If so, your drinking is harmful to your health and fat loss.
ACTION STEP 21 REVISITED
If you drink too much, next time you’re about to pop up that 4th beer, think: “What’s more important to me, this beer or losing fat?”. Trade your regular beer for a light beer or plain water. Another trick is to order glasses instead of pints.
De Oliveira E, Silva ER, Foster D, McGee HM, Seidman CE, Smith JD, Breslow JL, Brinton EA. Alcohol consumption raises HDL cholesterol levels by increasing the transport rate of apolipoproteins A-I and A-II. Circulation (2000) 102:2347-2352.
Recipes: Beer butt chicken
October 31, 2009 by The Cocktail Lounge

A friend first introduced me to beer-butt-chicken, but called it, “chicken on a throne.” Since then, I have heard several other names for it, but it is still the same thing, no matter it’s name…it’s good. If you haven’t tried it, you really should consider it.
If you don’t know what it is, Beer Butt Chicken is where you stick a can of beer, half drank, into a chicken’s cavity. (You thought I was going to write something else, didn’t you?) Coca Cola cans, half-full of coke, works as well, also. Water would probably work, but I’ve never tried it. The idea is that it keeps the chicken from getting dry, by adding moisture, flavor, and acts as a rack to hold the chicken upright on the grate, allowing even cooking, and it keeps the breast meat further from the heat than the dark meat, which is the way you want to cook any bird. There are racks on the market to keep the throne from overturning, but I’ve never found that a problem, so I don’t use a rack, the legs and can form a tri-pod, which does the job well.
To add flavor, you will be better off adding the seasonings to the bird, not in the can, I’ve found, but many cooks disagree, instead adding spices to the beer. Here is my favorite way to season the bird with the seasonings in the beer and on the chicken, covering all the bases:
Drink half a beer, and use the remainder of the can to put the chicken on its throne.
Add a shot of tequila, tasting it first, to the half-full (no, it’s not half-empty) can of beer.
Add some lime juice, or the left-over lime from taking the tequila shot, either works.
Add some Tabasco sauce to the beer.
Shove the can in the cavity of the chicken.
Use the can and the legs of the chicken to form a tripod for stability on the grill.
Open another can of beer, or take another shot of tequila.
Allow the bird to cook until the breast is 150 degrees F.
(No, not 160, the dark meat needs to be 160, but it is closer to the fire, it will be fine)
If you don’t have a thermometer, you can just twist the leg and if it turns inside the meat, it is done.
Remove the chicken from the grill.
Remove the can from the chicken.
While the chicken is resting (it is tired by now), pour the beer over the chicken.
Now, eat the chicken and/or drink the gravy.
That was kind of a joke. You don’t have to drink the gravy, it’s just an option.
Drink recipes: Batida

One of the most fluent, yet colorful drinks of all cocktails is the Batida cocktail. Inspired by island fruits and Cachca liqueur, the Batida proves to take you places, where you have never been before. Although the drink is commonly created with Vodka liquor instead of Cachca liqueur, due to it’s supply and demand on an economic wavelength, Cachca liqueur has a more sweet, yet unique flavor that collaborates well with the ingredients. With drinks such as Batida Morango, Batida de Pina, Batida Abacaxi, Batida de Carnival, Batida de Brazil, Batida de Sun, Batida de Summersday, Batida de Banana, Batida de Maracuja, and more, this amazing cocktail proves to be practically universal.
One of the most popular cocktails within the Batida family is the Batida de Coco. The Batida de Coco is a rather fluent, yet simple drink influenced by the coconut fruit. The Batida de Coco possesses two individual parts of Cachca liqueur and coconut cream, followed by crushed ice. The drink is traditionally served chilled, in a regular high ball cocktail glass, however; people who have a huge appreciation for this heavily coconut inspired drink, drink it in a regular cocktail glass on the rocks with a pineapple slice or maraschino cherry.
Another great drink within the Batida relationship is the Batida Mango. The Batida Mango is a rather colorful, yet simple drink heavily inspired by the mango fruit. The Batida Mango possesses 3 individual parts of Cachca liqueur, fresh mango, and sugar, followed by crushed ice. The mango is chopped up until it’s heavily blended into the liquid. The Batida Mango is served in a chilled white wine glass.
Although theorists believe this drink possess only two parts of a Cachca liqueur and fruit juice of your choice, I have decided to change it a little bit and create my own rendition of this fine drink, making many waves, followed by a huge splash.
Batida de Exotic
2 oz. Cachca Liqueur
1 oz. Cantalope Liqueur
1 oz. Honeydew Melon Liqueur
1 cup Banana (chopped, mashed, and blended)
1 cup Crushed Ice
1 tbsp Milk
1 tbsp Sugar (optional)
Before combining the ingredients, you wanna prepare everything individually in equal parts, excluding the Cachca. You want to begin by adding your banana to the blender and blending it for about 10 seconds. The fruit should not be turn into liquid, but rather be liquidity.
In a separate shaker, combine the cantaloupe liqueur and honeydew liqueur. As you continue, add the banana, crushed iced, and milk. When you have finished combining these ingredients, add the Cachca, followed by the sugar.
In a practical sense, you can use a hand held shaker or blender to mix, as either/or, works great. When you are finished, serve in a chilled, high ball glass, on the rocks, with a pineapple slice or maraschino cherry.
Drink recipes: Appletini or apple martini – Part 1
October 30, 2009 by The Cocktail Lounge
Apple martinis or “appletinis” are a great drink choice for those who like a sweet, smooth, yet potent drink. The basic ingredients of an appletini are vodka, apple schnapps, and apple juice. Though the proportions can vary according to taste, I prefer less schnapps and juice than vodka. My basic recipe is: two jiggers of premium vodka (a jigger is 1 1/2 oz.) combined with one pony of DeKuyper’s Sour Apple Pucker schnapps, and one pony of apple juice (a pony is one ounce), shaken vigorously in a cocktail shaker and divided between two chilled martini glasses.
However, like most martinis, apple martinis can be personalized in a multitude of ways. You can add half a jigger of Cointreau or Grand Marnier to the above recipe to give a smooth orange marmalade flavor to the appletini. Flavored vodkas also add a hint of the unexpected-citrus, peach, apple, and pepper vodkas work wonderfully with appletinis. For a fun fizz and ginger spice, you can replace the apple juice in the above recipe with one pony to one jigger of ginger ale.
I also like to play with presentation when I customize my appletinis. A standard garnish for this drink is a very thin Granny Smith apple slice. A mandolin works best for getting an extremely thin, almost transparent slice. If the slice is thin enough, you can place it on top of the drink and it will float gracefully on the surface. Many people also garnish the side of the glass with a thin apple wedge or a cinnamon stick. One of my favorite ways to customize an appletini is to rim the glass with cinnamon or cinnamon sugar. For a fun and unusual twist, rim the glass in a sugar and Pop Rocks mixture that is sure to surprise and delight. To rim a martini glass, dip the edge of the glass in water and then dip in in a shallow container of your chosen garnish.
Apple martinis are all about having fun. Gather some friends together and enjoy trying out these different suggestions, and think of some others on your own. Each appletini can be as distinguished and individual as the person who creates it.
How to play drinking games – Part 3
October 30, 2009 by The Cocktail Lounge
Drinking is already pretty awesome, but if you’re trying to liven up your Renaissance Fair after party, or work up the courage to tell your mom’s best friend how you feel, a few rounds of these three classic drinking games is all you need.
1) Quarters
What you need:
2-8 players (you can play with 1 person, but “practice” only counts when you play in the dark)
1-10 quarters (you’re gonna lose half and buy condoms with the other half later…hopefully)
2 shot glasses or 1 pint glass
Hard liquor or beer
The Basics:
Bouncing a quarter into a shot or pint glass filled with whatever you happen to be drinking is really the only rule. If you’re playing head to head, the other person drinks the liquid. If it’s a multiple player game, the bouncer picks the player who drinks it.
Variations:
Speed Quarters – Two shot glasses move around the table, starting on opposing sides of the circle. When anyone bounces the quarter in, they move the shot glass and the quarter to the player to their left. If any player gets two shot glasses in front of them at any time, they lose and have to drink something. We use pee.
Trick Quarters – It’s basically like HORSE. One player calls a specific shot or series of shots and if they make them, the other player tries to match it. If they don’t they drink.
2) King’s Cup
What you need:
1 deck of cards
1 Pint sized glass
4-10 people
Beer
The Basics: Spread the whole deck of cards face down in a circle around the empty cup. Each card has a drinking action attached to it, like 6 is a social where everyone drinks, and 10 lets whoever drew it make a rule. Every card has some kind of action involved, you guys make the rules. Only one card has an absolute rule – the king. Every time the king is drawn, whoever drew it pours however much of what they’re drinking into the cup. When the fourth king gets drawn, that person drinks what’s in the cup. And the game draws to a sad, sad close.
Variations: There really aren’t any…unless someone is playing with merlot. Then you’re in for a totally different game.
3) Beer Pong (Don’t be the guy who calls it “Beirut.” We ALL know it’s called Beirut. Just call it Beer Pong)
What you need:
1 table at least 6 ft. long (ping pong tables are best)
2-100 ping pong balls (you absolutely will lose at least 50)
20 solo cups (plastic party glasses)
6000 beers
Set up 10 cups in the shape of a pyramid – or “beeramid” – on each side of the table and form two teams of two. Then basically start throwing balls at the cups. If it goes in, the other team has to drink it. Bouncing a ball in means they drink two cups, but the defending team can block it. When they’re gone, it’s over.
Variations: Every house has rules dealing with re-racking the cups into different shapes, multiple turns, special shots, and game ending rules. These are too varied to write about here, but know that I’ve been playing for 96 years, and I’m still coming across new rules.
I even played with easter eggs once. Seriously.
These three games are guaranteed to get any party started, but you don’t have to stick with these classics. All a great game really needs is a little imagination, a large set of obscure rules that no one will remember halfway through the game, and savage penalties for anyone who breaks those rules. After that, just tap a keg and invite the local little league team over for a night of good natured, team-spirited vomit.
And don’t forget the taunting. Winning isn’t fun unless the losers want to die.
World Most Expensive Car Tint
October 30, 2009 by The Cocktail Lounge
This story will sound fantastic, but written here is true, only true and nothing more than true. But as we know real truth very often sound more fantastic than true lies. But of course it is up to You – to believe? Or not to believe.
What is the first thing people do after buy a car? Yes, of course – they think what else they can add to standart car equipment – whatever this car cost Eur 1000 or Eur 2,000,000. People add spoilers-shmoilers, bumpers, stickers, grills and tons of additional lamps, louspeakers, amplifires and many other useless? But blinging things. Window film is among tham.
But what to do if Your car cost two-three hundred thousands Euro? Or at least one million? Put same grey economy line tint under label “super-puper-supreme-superior-DeLux”? Yeaaah, it can be nice gag, and may be some people do that, or better to tell did before. Before was born World Most Expensive Window Film. Window Film for people who’s car serial number from 1 to 10, and no more cars in this serie. For people who think that they need more than cheap polyester on their car glass. For people who understand that paying number with six zero’s for their car, they must follow trend – and pay equal amount for any additional thing for this car – whatever this is car wash or nut for wheel. But thanks some bright brains this miracle was born.
But let’s go step by step, let’s listen this story from this product Godfather – Leonard F. Yankelovich, famous Russian TintDADDY, Vodka Science Academic, man who was in funky businessman tens years before same name book was written.
“Once very nice lady visited our company. At first glamce we decide that she is crazy. Of course it was. May be because she had one serious problem – how to waste her father – Kazakh oil king – money. She ordered custjn limo from limited edition MINI, and at last steps of this project car need to be tinted. Not. Tinted. All smoke-black-charcoal and other grey stuff was thrown out. As car was pink – our proposal was pink window film” – told us Leonard
“That’s OK” – replied Regina,” But only for some windows. I need exclusive. Exclusive from exclusive from exclusive. Not exclusivest exclusive from exclusive. Price doesn’t matter. No. Matter. Price must be overhigh? Otherwise I don’t need it”.
“That’s nice. And that what we like” – Leonard was happy is he is one of the most crazy fighters with grey stuff on car glasses.
“Pink film on the market was not a problem. The problem was not discolorating pink window film – nobody made it before. All pink film discolorate in 2-6 month and look urgly. But – power of Soviet science is still in us. And I spoke some bright brains at our factory equipment supplier – Sidrabe (on latvian Silver). This factory was born with cosmic era and Soviet success in space is also because Sidrabe (of course during soviet time this factory have only number – like all soviet military factories). Lunokhod coating and glass coating on Evgeny Leonov’s survival kit – all this was created at Sidrabe. Their inventions passed most extremely and most trutfull test – outer space test. That’s why DARTSFILMZ.TV used their equipment, and that’s why I made a decision to discuss most-most-most window film idea with factory scientists. Pink film problem was decided easily – some rare metal nanocoating allow us to get unachievable by other teams result. Like told me engeneers – we call it Space-&-Back Technology – You can go to space and come back – coating will notn change the color. But that was only first step to our aim. Will not tell You that second step was very hard. Super-puper exclusive idea was born fast and easy – with first shots of Vodka. Gold, Platinum – anything, told me factory guys. Old soviet coater is still OK and still working. We don’t use it as it is quite expensive – but if if You have an aim to spent money, we will be happy yo support You in this. I was happy” – told us Leonard drinking Imperial collection Vodka from FaBerge egg.
“Hope it won’t cost me only ten thousand” – asked me Regina
“No. For Sure NO. Natural gold plated film will cost You Eur 50,000 per each side door. But as You have only two doors – totally it will cost You Eur 100,000. Of course one Euro discount – so only Eur 99,999, exact like gold purity” – second shot show us the bottom.
“Deal” – was Regina’s short reply.
“But – not all rich papa’s daughters are brainless money waisters, and next day I got a call”
“Leonard, of course I want exclusive from exclsuive. But I also want to make money from that. Why not to make same tints for other customers?”
“Hmmmmm…… You think there are holidays in madhouse? I want to ask Regina. ButI told her – If You can sell it – why not?”
Here is the story how was born World Most Expensive Car Film, told us by this film creator Leonard F. Yankelovich. But – that’s only beginning of this miracle story. Story which sounds like fairy tail, but not a fairy tail. Second customer was famous Russo-Baltique car.
We think that’s really destiny that these two products – World Most Expensive Car Film and World Most Expensive Car was historically born in one place. Both of this things (car and film) follow Riga’s traditions. Both of them made Riga famous not only like Her Majesty Secret Service Agent 007 supplier with Vodka Stoly, but also like city with strong scietific and manufacturing traditions. Both of them rose the flags of factories which stopped for sometime, but proudly start their way again. Russo-Balt factory was born in Tzar Russia at 1913, Sidrabe was born at Breznev’s U.S.S.R. at 1962. Both this brands became famouse again in wild capitalist 90-th.
There are lot of information about Russo-Baltique project in internet and what we will do – just put some Russo-Balt factory pictures, pictures of one of two classic Russo-Balt’s left in the world and link to other blogs – as our story is not about this car.
But our story is about World Most Expensive Car Film which is now installed on two ….let’s name tham not cheap cars – MillionEuroMini SHAGADELIC.GLAMOUR (http://MillionEuroMini.Com ) and Russo-Baltique Impression (http://RussoBaltique.Com) . Film which will make Your car much more exclsuive than exclusive. For example no any Veyron or Maybach have this films.
And here is some information about films we got from Leonard.
You can choose any metall coating – silver, gold, platinum, tungsteen, or so on. You can buy You own metal or ask us to do that.
You can choose coating thicknes – it is practically not limited, but of course must choosed smart.
You can choose VLT You want – of course there are regulations, but DARTSFILMZ.TV leave VLT decision with You, hope You can pay penalty for Your Gold Film.
You can come and see how Your gold are slowly sputerred on window film – of You can order video how it was. Anycase DARTSFILMZ.TV promise You that all Your ordered gold, or platinum will be on Your window film.
One of the options – You can invite installer from DARTSFILMZ.TV who will provide You full installation service to any point of our planet.
And the final countdown. Prices on World Most Expensive Car Film start from Eur 99,999 per two door kit. And that’s with discount.
Ooooooooops, we forget one more thing. World Most Expensive Car Film now have two names – MillionEuroFilm and Russo-Baltique.Film. Hope You understand why.
And let’s tell our thanks to new russians (kazakhs) , that they make some people’s brain to work faster than other.

Drink recipes: Rob roy

The Rob Roy cocktail is rumored to be born out of the auspicious Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City in the late 1800s when the opera “Rob Roy” was showing. Rob Roy Macgregor was a Scottish folk hero who’s life attained notoriety when a fictionalized account of his life were described in the book Highland Rogue by Daniel DeFoe. Later works by Sir Walter Scott and William Wordsworth also served to perpetuate the fame of a person that most people would consider and outlaw and disgruntled character after reading the historical account of Rob Roy’s life. Nevertheless the Rob Roy cocktail was a very popular cocktail for those who like Scotch. Angostura bitters are also a curious addition to cocktails. No one actually knows the true ingredients of Angostura bitters although gentian root is thought to be one of the ingredients. The bitters were originally developed in 1824 for those who had stomach/digestive ailments by Dr. J.G.B. Siegert who was the Surgeon General for Simon Bolivar’s army in Venezuela.
Rob Roy Cocktail
1 1/2 oz Scotch
1/4 oz sweet vermouth
Angostura bitters to taste
Pour the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice. Stir well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry. The Rob Roy can also be made “dry” or “perfect”. For a dry Rob Roy: Substitute dry vermouth for the sweet vermouth garnish with an olive. For a perfect Rob Roy: Use a 1/4 oz. of both sweet and dry Vermouth and garnish.
Sparking some more recent interest, the Rob Roy was mentioned in the 1999 Brendan Fraser movie “Blast From The Past. ” In the movie the character of “Adam Webber” refers to the drink “It’s a Rob Roy, a very popular drink, I’m told.” was meant to be a reference to the past popularity of the drink.

Traditional Drink, Modern Crowd
October 30, 2009 by The Cocktail Lounge

Why is it that scotch always seem to be ignored in the bar scene? It is understandable that most people find scotch too harsh to drink while dancing the night away but it could certainly be introduced in some mild cocktails. It is commonly assumed that the sweeter drinks tend to give you the staying power on the dance floor as they are usually loaded with sugar.
Sugar is not an ingredient that one would normally associate with scotch and many of club-goers will shy away from the so-called “old mans drink.” Yet they really do not understand the impact that scotch in small doses in sweet drinks can have. It can liven up any party in a relatively short amount of time.
Of course, there are the few drinks out there that may garner interest from the up-and-coming young professionals who are trying to mature. One of these mild drinks with scotch is the Rusty Nail. This delicious drink contains 1 1/2 ounces of scotch, 1/2 ounces of Drambuie and a twist of peel from a lemon.
This drink eschews the common rule of no ice in scotch, as the glass should be filled nearly to the brim with cubes. Once the ice fills the glass, the Drambuie and scotch are poured in together, stirred vigorously and garnished with the lemon peel. This makes a delectable, small mixed drink that is much easier on the throat as well as the stomach than pure scotch.
The whiskey sour is another popular drink. This is a drink that all classes and generations can enjoy. This drink contains 2 ounces of blended whiskey, the juice of half a lemon, half a teaspoon of powdered sugar, one cherry, and half a slice of lemon.
This drink is also easy to make. Shake the blended whiskey, the lemon juice, and the powdered sugar with ice then strain into a whiskey sour glass. For the final flourish, top with the cherry and garnish the drink with the lemon slice.
Another tasty drink that the younger crowd may enjoy is the Rob Roy. This is a very simple drink that many relish and is quickly made so you can be back on the dance floor in little time.
This drink contains 1 and a half ounces of scotch whiskey and three-quarter ounces of sweet vermouth. You simply stir the contents with ice and strain into a cocktail glass.
